From holiday camps to home freezers

In 1974, Butlins asked us to supply their holiday camps with frozen Yorkshire puddings. We obviously said yes. And we’ve been using the same tried and true recipe ever since.

The very same one we started supplying to Iceland in the mid 70s, under the name of Tryton Foods. Then to other major British supermarket chains from the mid 90s, when we officially launched the Aunt Bessie’s brand. Since then, we’ve come a long, long way, and done a lot more cooking.

We learn from the best

From 1974 to 2018, we were part of the William Jackson Food Group, whose roots go back over 160 years. In 1851, William Jackson set up a grocer shop on Scale Lane in Hull. What started as a small, family-owned business grew into the national food group we know today.

In 2018, we joined Nomad Foods. An international leader in frozen foods, Nomad works across 17 countries, and has number one positions in 10 countries spanning the UK and Europe. We’re in good company too. Birds Eye, Findus and Goodfellas are all part of the Nomad group.

What would Bessie do?

Our recipes are as close to homemade as you can get. We never use artificial colours or flavours like MSG, and we only ever use the best quality ingredients. Because it's what Bessie would do.
