Did you know that a third of all food is wasted?
Food waste is a major issue across the globe and our precious resources are also being wasted, which we think is wrong. That’s why in addition to reducing food waste we work hard to reduce waste throughout our supply chain. Our ambition is to turn our raw materials into delicious products with the least amount of waste possible.
With quick freezing, we’re able to hit the pause button on fresh and semi-finished products to keep quality and taste to the highest standards throughout the production process. This means our brands have some of the lowest food waste percentages across the food industry.
How do we try to recycle any food waste?
Of course, there is unavoidable food waste but there are also fractions of avoidable food waste which we constantly aim to reduce. When possible, we send those materials to become animal food. If it’s unsuitable as animal food, we typically send it to anaerobic digestion where it gets turned into natural fertilisers and/or renewable energy.
Committed to help reduce food waste
Because we take our responsibilities in challenging waste very seriously at Aunt Bessie's, we were one of the first adopters to sign up to the WRAP Courtauld Commitment in 2016.
The Courtauld Commitment 2025 [1] is a UK-wide voluntary agreement to reduce food waste by 20% by 2025. Doing so will help the UK achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 for 2030, which applies to consumer and retail food waste.
